The One Where I Miss Home... and Love Prague
It is the first day of summer, right? Well, summer arrived...with a vengance! It actually happened last week. A cold spring - one of the coldest people can remember here- and then one day (the day AFTER our canoe trip), it just got hot! It went from consistent 60 degree temps with rain to the 90s almost overnight. So here I am, dripping sweat on my laptop, plunking out another blog post.Yesterday, I had one of those surreal moments... I had gotten too hot to stay in the coffee shop where I was sitting, grading papers. So I left, got some picnicky food and sat beside the river (the Vltava, which flows through Prague). It was absolutely perfect! It was about 15 degrees cooler in the shade of a tree, the breeze from the Vltava was gentle, the trees' perfume just hit me in waves. I simply lay there on the grass, looking around at the castle, the Charles Bridge, the red rooftops, people playing soccer all around me, and thought "What the heck? When did THIS become my life?" It seemed absolutely unreal! It was just a Tuesday... a normal workday, but I get to do that, see this city, mingle with these people everyday! Hmm... just what I was thinking about yesterday.
On the other hand, today I realized I have less than 10 days until I fly home. When I think of it, I literally can't believe it has been a year since I left. I can't imagine seeing people again - seeing how they have changed, babies they have had, haircuts, marriages, all of this that I missed this past year, I will get to catch up to in the next few weeks! I also can't wait to taste the food at the Hong Kong, Las Margaritas, Qdoba, ... (I am drooling a litle, like Homer Simpson)
So if you are reading this and have one of these things available to you (food, friends, etc...), please enjoy it for me! (Don't call and rub it in! Just appreciate it!) I, on the other hand, will sit in the shade of a tree in a very old, very beautiful European city and will take a nap here for you!
